We were honored to present the Village Caregiving 2024 Caregiver of the Year Award to Jennifer Kinney, who embodies all our core attributes and more. Her unwavering commitment to providing compassionate care and resilience, even when faced with adversity, has touched countless lives and is an inspiration to us all about the difference that one person can make.

Professional Profile
Jennifer Kinney has been a professional caregiver for over two decades. We have been fortunate to have her on our Village Caregiving team for the past two and a half years at the time of this award. In addition to receiving our top award as caregiver of the year, Jennifer was named a 2024 Frontline Honors honoree by Home Health Care News, a remarkable achievement and well-deserved.
Jennifer excels in all these areas and continues to go above and beyond to exceed expectations. She shared that she was drawn to the caregiving profession from childhood and could never imagine doing anything else. This innate passion shines through in her work and her outlook on life, making her an invaluable asset to our team and an inspiration to aspiring caregivers.

The Heart of a Caregiver: Jennifer’s Personal Journey
Even in the face of adversity, Jennifer’s unshakable positivity makes her achievements and record for outstanding caregiving even more remarkable. As someone living with Multiple Sclerosis, Jennifer manages the daily challenges of her own health with a quiet and determined strength. Additionally, her husband suffered a serious heart attack shortly after her diagnosis, adding financial strain and worry to an already challenging situation.
Through it all, Jennifer has maintained a positive attitude and given so much of herself to others. She never allows her personal situation to get her down and continues to radiate joy and a love of life to her clients, along with exceptional home care services.
The Ripple Effect of Her Care: Client Impact
The impact Jennifer has on her clients and their families is immeasurable. Her presence and dedication bring peace of mind and security to those she serves and make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
One of Jennifer’s clients is 102 years old. Her compassionate and skilled care has enabled him to remain in his home on the 500-acre family dairy farm his grandparents built. It is the home where he was born and the same home that his children have promised him he will spend his remaining days — the only home he has ever known for more than a century of life.
Jennifer’s daily visits provide essential respite care, allowing her client’s son and daughter-in-law to manage the 100-head cattle farm. The family shared that if it were not for Jennifer’s amazing, dependable care, one of them would be unable to work on the farm and would need to remain home to care for their beloved father.

Jennifer’s remarkable resilience, graciousness and dependability were key attributes in her selection as Village Caregiving’s 2024 Caregiver of the Year. These qualities define how she approaches life and profoundly impact all her interactions with colleagues and clients.

Resilience
Jennifer has the ability to calmly respond to stressful situations and difficult times. She is not discouraged by challenges and setbacks and tries to find a resolution to challenges, all while always maintaining a positive outlook.
Graciousness
Jennifer is patient, kind, understanding and empathetic — she is the true definition of gracious. She has a natural ability to make others feel comfortable and appreciated, even in difficult circumstances, and she consistently puts the needs of others before her own.
Dependability
Jennifer is reliable, trustworthy and consistent in her role as a caregiver. She is always willing to pick up extra shifts to ensure client comfort and can be trusted to complete any task assigned to her. Her reliability and commitment to her role as a caregiver make her willing to work extended hours when required, always putting the care and safety of her clients first.
Unwavering Dedication and Excellence in Action
Life doesn’t always go as planned, and heroes are revealed in times of crisis that heroes are revealed. Village Caregiving is fortunate to have many such individuals who selflessly make a difference and touch the lives of others in their daily work. Jennifer’s work ethic and sincere concern for the well-being of her clients shone through in one particular emergency situation.
In February of 2024, a tornado touched down in the rural area where Jennifer lives. It caused widespread destruction, with downed power lines, snapped telephone poles, closed roads and debris scattered throughout the area. Jennifer sent us pictures and a text to inform us about the tornado and the devastation that it had caused in her community.
We were extremely relieved to hear that Jennifer and her family were uninjured, as the tornado had thankfully missed their home, but due to the downed power and communication lines, she was not able to contact her clients to check on them. While responding to Jennifer’s text, another message came through from her that stated, ‘I’ll get to them all one way or another!’ and in true Jennifer fashion, she did!
Later that evening, Jennifer shared the details of her day — the devastation she witnessed to homes, seeing people’s personal belongings scattered like trash, the multiple detours she had to take due to roads being closed and the shocked expressions clients had when she walked through their front doors like it was just another day.
At Village Caregiving, we embrace our team of exceptional caregivers and clients as family. Jennifer embodies our caring philosophy in the way she put the needs of others before her own on that difficult day. We are truly blessed to have Jennifer on our team and celebrate her recognition as our 2024 Caregiver of the Year.
